Baubles Bangles and Beads – Completed

…and ready for wrapping as its a pressie.

IMG_3098IMG_3099

actually I finished it about a month ago but have been too BUSY to post about it..

This is the larger of the two quilts – the other is finished too but needs to go off to be quilted.

This is the last quilt label from our old computer which crashed. I’ve lost a lot of my nice fonts, and at the moment I can’t access any of the quilts that I designed on that computer, poo.

Alfie just wants me to come back inside so he can get comfy, and so he doesn’t have to deal with the grass because he hates walking on grass.

(you would as well if your belly was only an inch off the ground)

Nearly finished – Baubles, Bangles and Beads

I’m just finishing the last borders on this quilt.

I like a final inch border to tidy it up and make it easier to bind.

I am also piecing the final bits of its sister quilt and have finally finished cutting out black triangles! YES!!

The dogs think if its on the floor its fair game.

I love the black bubble fabric that I am using for the backing as well.

Alfie approves!

I have a LOT of nearly finished projects,

so watch this space over the next few months.

Getting sick of little black triangles…..

Update of the kaleidoscope quilts. I am about 85% finished the smaller one (Bewitched Bothered and Bewildered).

IMG_2041

I’m going to put it away for a few months while I complete the larger quilt, which is about 75% complete.

Mainly as I’ve run out of room on the design walls.

IMG_2042IMG_2046

I’m getting a little frustrated as I have a lot of plans for new projects, but I have a lot of old projects that I need to finish first!

Kaleidoscope Project–Update

Here is where I’m up to with the Kaleidoscope quilts -  before I leave them both behind for a few months.

I’ve pieced about a third of each top – so I still have a long way to go.

Above: This is the larger quilt top – Baubles, Bangles and Beads.

The white sections are mostly GLOW in the dark fabric!

It really works.

…and above is the smaller top – Bewitched, bothered and Bewildered.

I was hoping to complete two UFOs (unfinished objects) before I leave for overseas but I ran out of time, money  and enthusiasm.

I’ll try to make them a priority when I return,,,,( famous last words)!

I don’t take projects with me when I travel.

I’ve done that before and not touched them during the trip.

But I don’t mind collecting fabrics and inspirations from distant places.

Kaleidoscope Quilt – Progress Report

I’m having great fun putting these quilts together – I guess the novelty will wear off eventually. The novelty certainly has worn off the top with the appliqué basket – I really must get my act togetherSad smile

IMG_0266

But I have almost finished the ‘I Spy’ quilt (putting on the binding) and the 'I remember you’ top is at the quilters now.

As promised here is my method of assembly for these complicated quilt tops!

I start with my EQ6 pattern and I am breaking the tops down into separate blocks. I have a special print out of each of these quilts where I have substituted the mixed black background for a neutral light green, which makes it easier to define each block.

IMG_0268

I then break each block into how many pieces of each colour. As the blocks in the book are always a few pages ahead I can usually cut enough of one colour for the next few blocks.

Also, each block has pieces that are either cut on the bias or on the straight of grain. The ‘Nanny Ogg’ part of my brain has called these the male and female pieces. The male are pointy at an angle, the female are up and down……..

IMG_0263

I’ve nearly completed the first big star burst, which is identical in each quilt. Then I’m going to move on to some of the black parts.

Here are both tops together.

My Quilt World - Kaleidoscope Project

WELL! --- as if I haven't got enough projects to finish
AND I am currently working full time.

But, I've got all carried away and started a new quilt. AND and an extremely COMPLICATED design at that!!!...............   AND, I am making TWO quilts at once! *EEEK*

The Two quilts are called.... 'Baubles, Bangles and Beads' and 'Bewitched, Bothered and Bewildered' -- One is slightly smaller than the other. The larger one (Design below) is approx 59 x 69 inches.

The centre of the largest star burst is taking shape

A few months ago I saw a lovely quilt in one of my magazines that inspired me to design something similar. (I will  have to find the designer of the inspiration quilts name so that I can reference her correctly on the quilt label)

My design for Baubles Bangles and Beads

The block for these quilts is relatively simple -- the Kaleidoscope block -- However as you can see from my plan the placement and colour way for this quilt is far from simple.

BUT, I have a method ...... and next time I post a progress report I will discuss how I am getting this design to work.

Until next time... Kim
