Ripe Strawberries for the Table

Finally complete is the second of the Ripe Strawberries quilt.

This is the smaller, sister quilt to the larger version pictured below.

I completed that one 3 years ago.

19.12.2010 Finished 002

I always struggle to complete quilts that are for me as I have no deadline!

And they get put aside until I complete other projects.

This quilt has four of the basket blocks and I used up the remainder

of the lovely afternoon tea fabric in the backing.

It fits our round table perfectly – although when we move I plan to get a new larger table.

Its too sunny in our current backyard to take good photos of the quilts. I’ll have to find a better quilt photo spot when we finally in the new house.

My Quilt World - Ripe Strawberries

FINISHED!

... and just in time for Christmas -
now I just  need to wrap it up for a Christmas gift -
I hope she likes it..(my mum in law)....

One of the labels.

This is the second label - about my inspiration - lots of ladies carrying baskets of strawberries!
Remember - my inspiration for naming this quilt came from the musical - OLIVER!.
Click on the photos for a close up view.

if the photos look really good its because I've bought myself a new camera!
Happy Birthday to me!!

My Quilt world - Ripe Strawberries - version 2

My EQ6 design

Well, as I did get sooooo many nights I was able to make headway on the smaller version of Ripe Strawberries.

This one is for me to keep and I thought I'd use it as a table topper. So I've chosen the background fabric to match the lounge room colour scheme. (gold) I'm also using lots of the leftover fabrics from the larger version.

All blocks need to be pressed and trimmed

And,,, I'm working on it backwards and have started with the birds in the air blocks that form one of the outside borders.

My quilt world - Ripe Strawberries!

I've finished the top.. yee haa!

and I've bought a pretty teacup fabric to back it with. This should be finished well in time for Christmas.

I'm really happy with it as I thought it might be really garish and bright and busy, or the feature fabric would be too dominating. BUT, the feature fabric is lovely and really makes the quilt. I am really pleased with how all the colours have worked together.

Next time I post about this quilt it should be the finished item.

Good news is that the US dollar is FaNtaStiC!!! And I'm in a fabric buying spree with a sort of
'kaleidoscope crossed with fireworks' pattern  and a blue quilt planned to be started next year...(on top of those projects that I still need to finish........... e.g..... the Beatlemania quilt...  the lonnnnng and winding road.....)

Until next time.... Kim

My quilt world - Ripe Strawberries - progress report

I'm still going on the ripe strawberries quilt!

I'm very happy with the feature fabric although I've had some problems trying to get an even center square so that the borders will fit.

I considered trimming the centre, but then decided to do some creative fiddling with the borders. This seems to be working okay.

I should have this top completed in the next couple of weeks - its time to buy the backing and the batting..

Until next time .... Kim

My quilt world - Ripe Strawberries! - Progress Report

I have finished all the baskets now and I am working on the pink/blue/gold sashing.

Its not fitting together as neatly as I hoped, I think some of the basket blocks may be a little wonky. Probably due to the number of pieces in each.

Still on track to get this finished by Christmas - which is good as I've already bought fabric for my next BIG project!!

Until next time, Kim .....

My quilt world - Ripe Strawberries!

AND, yet another quilt that I have started - this one I plan to give away at Christmas (but that's a secret and depends on if it turns out okay and that I have it finished in time) .Its only planned to be a medium size quilt, good for a table topper or a throw quilt for the lounge room.

Its baskets full of strawberries with a feature print of teapots and (guess what) strawberries. I've been able to use more of the red fabric left over from the house quilt.

I'm also planning a second version that I will keep - so I'm making extra basket blocks.

The name was inspired by the musical Oliver! The big scene where all the street sellers are shouting and selling their wares door to door.

Who will buy

will you buy my sweet red roses
two blooms for a penny
Ripe strawberries, ripe!
Ripe strawberries, ripe!
Oliver:Who will buy this wonderful morning
such a sky you never did see
who will tie it up in a ribbon
and put it in a box for me

and so on.... If you've forgotten this scene then its time you watched this musical again!!

Until next time.... Kim
