Next Stop Warwick

Day four

Day 4

And our next 2 nights will be at Warwick.
But before leaving Toowoomba we had a quick stop at their Japanese gardens.

“My bridge,,, pardon me, coming through”

And it wouldn’t be the long run without shed visits, and here is the first shed for the day.

Then we had a stop for a look at Clifton, where the Charger reversed into a parked car. Just as well its built like a tank – although the ladder style rear lights are going to be a challenge to replace.

Day 4 clif

Then it was off for lunch at Glengallan.

IMG_4506

We’ve been driving past this place for years – its been in ruins, but its now finally being restored. Its only half a house, it was never completely finished in the first place.
Beautiful sandstone and wrought iron.

Day 4 GG

Then the second shed of the day!

And tonight it is torrential rain and lots of us got soaked getting back from dinner.

Around Toowoomba

Day three

Day 3

Everybody is waking up at the crack of dawn so no problems being ready for the morning briefing. Its going to be a hot day.

IMG_4456

First stop today was picnic point, to admire the view and take some photos.

IMG_4462
IMG_4459

Then it was off to Spring Bluff station for morning tea.

IMG_4465

This is a real working station – but a pretty one.
It nearly washed away in the 2011 flood, but it has since been restored.
Day 3 SB1

Day 3 SB2
IMG_4471

Then on the trip back to Toowoomba it was chaos with lots of wrong turns and cars going all sorts of directions. However we eventually all found the gardens although the flower beds had finished for spring.

IMG_4473

Beautiful trees… although a couple in the group got ticks.

IMG_4474

A baby cocky.. waiting for mum

IMG_4476

Then it was off to Scotty’s Garage (the shed of the day)…

IMG_4490

Not only does he have cars and bikes…

IMG_4480
IMG_4482

But also a 1950’s style diner.

IMG_4486

So there were a lot of milkshake cravings.

IMG_4488

And we missed the Melbourne cup because we thought it was on at 3pm and forgot about the time difference.
Don’t think I’d like to live out here, too hot, isolated and the whole area looks ready for a bushfire to go whoooosh through it!

IMG_4491

Google earth were also there to take photos so I guess this pic will eventually turn up on the web.

Its all about the Shed

Day two

So, Monday and the weather remains clear and fine and its off for our first adventure,
Which was negotiating the Monday morning peak hour traffic in Toowoomba.
In a convoy of old cars.
Its like trying to herd cats. Even with the 'two ways'.

IMG_4438

above: the secret to attracting men, open your bonnet…
First stop was the shed of one of the members of the Darling Downs Vintage and Veterans car club. He’s a Holden guy – lovely finish on his cars.

IMG_4431
IMG_4437

Then morning tea was provided by the club at their very flash club house – they must have lots more $ than us to even have a clubhouse.

IMG_4435

Following lunch (where I managed to sit in something red and sticky – tomato sauce? Of course white pants…..),,,,, It was off to the Australian Army Flying Museum at the Oakey airfield.

IMG_4441

Another shed… I’ve seen a lot of sheds on these trips, some so so, some fascinating.

Now as a girl, I’m not really into the mechanics of these great flying machines but I find the the history and the inventiveness fantastic.
Flying Machines went from this in 1910…

IMG_4448

To this in 1915..

IMG_4449

And a stop and a push for a bit of an overheated Jag on our way back to Toowoomba.

IMG_4453

And dinner at the pub across the road from the Motel…

2015 Long Mystery Run……. and its Toowoomba Queensland!

Day One

Travel month continues and its entrée time.
Its time for this years Long Run, which always has a secret destination.

So today we were given instructions that we are off to Toowoomba.
We are taking the 1973 Cortina, Mrs C, for this trip.

IMG_4418
Above was morning tea at Ben Lomond.

IMG_4419

And we had a stop in Deepwater to visit the craft and antique shop.. (and Graham got attacked by the car when the door closed on his head so he’s got a mild black eye now).
No Daylight saving in Qld  so our times are all out of whack. And we are taking all our classics into an area where they have had massive hail storms over the past week, so this should be interesting….
Lunch was at Girraween national park which is just north of Wallangarra.

IMG_4421

Then a quick stop at this pyramid – which some bloke had built as a tourist drawcard but then his business went bust!

IMG_4422

Then the adventure of battling the Queensland drivers – overtaking on double lines and other such stupidity, as we made our way into Toowoomba.

We are staying at the Jefferies Motel for the next three nights while we explore the area.  It will be great not have to pack up the car every day.
