Jordan - Tuesday 27th May - Petra part 1

This was a big day out, and a 7 km walk, so we started early. We were back at the hotel for lunch.

Of course everyone has dressed sensibly for a desert trek, but here I am in a red blouse!

You could take the easy way and ride a horse down, or take a golf cart. But it was a nice easy downhill walk going in.

That below  is the beautiful purple bougainvillea that grows well here.

Above, this is part of the old water conduit which runs the length of the ancient city to supply water to the lower areas.

Here we are, although I should have left my hat on as my hair is hot and sweaty.

It was about 35degrees, but as we left early it was bearable.

Lots of alters and carvings along the route.

Above is our tourism police person, Abdul, following along behind.

This is Mo pointing out one of the carvings.
(I've cleverly photo-shopped erased the plastic water bottle that some litterer had shoved in the railings).

Its known as the Rose City due to the colour of the stone.

Mo said it was really quiet, not as many tourists as usual.

Then Mo asked us to turn around and look high up on a wall to see something of interest, then he said "Only kidding" look this way. There it was our first glimpse of the treasury building.

 Graham took a video...

 To be continued..
