At Nuremburg today, which is a lovely ancient city. Or should I say, it was a lovely ancient city, then had hell bombed out of it in WW2 and has been rebuilt to resemble the city it once was, but newer!
Of course Graham has been here before, there is actually nowhere on this trip (apart from a couple of places we are planning to visit in the U.K.) that he hasn't been before.
He’s has a keen interest in watching the changes in Europe, and Germany in particular, since the fall of the wall.
We visited Nuremburg Castle. And went for a bit of a wander around.
Had lunch in a tavern, that was a bit like an underground cavern, and we were the only ones there. It was nice German food.
Dear Readers, A few musings about things we have noticed that have changed since previous visits.
Although maybe we are just getting old.
1/ Snogging in public. As much as I admire true loves first blush we have noticed an upsurge in public pashing. Very difficult to concentrate on the old Glühwein when the couple at the table next to you should be getting a room for the night.
I wonder how many German babies are conceived in December? I could write a Thesis on that.. “The role of Glühwein in the procreation and growth of the future German nation”
2/ Photos of self. Good grief Dear Readers, what is this business of having to take about 100 photos of yourself at somewhere or with something. Folks are forever in the way, you trip over them while they take a photo of themselves or boyfriend/girlfriend etc. And they rarely read what the place/object is about. So there will be a generation that has travelled the world, has the proof in the photos but has learnt little from the experience.

Yes , that's snow above brrrrrr. We have gone a bit upmarket here and are at the Novotel which is very noice.
Nuremburg has a very large Christmas market and I strangely took very few photos. (Probably as they are all getting to look the same). We have bought a lot of little trinkets, in fact space in the old big Bertha is at crisis point.

There is a very special smell about the German Christmas. Cinnamon, baked pastry, apples, and pine. I am surprised that the locals don't develop cinnamon toxicity. Graham claims that the natural antidote for overdoses of cinnamon is wurst (sausage).
